Three marketers walk into a bar.
Each marketer sits down at the bar, orders a beer, opens up their laptop and starts writing a promotional email.
“What are you guys up to?”, asks the bartender.
“We’re writing a promotional email”, they reply.
“Why are you writing a promotional email?”, asks the curious bartender.
The first marketer says, “I’m writing a promotional email to promote my business.”
The second marketer says, “I’m writing a promotional email to get sales and make money, of course.”
The third marketer answered, “I’m writing a promotional email to help my subscribers better their lives.”
Now, let me ask you, dear subscriber, which marketer are you?
Hopefully, you are like marketer number three.
Look, I’m not saying that you shouldn’t want to promote your business, or want to fill your personal coffers. We all do. What I am saying is this: they should not be your ultimate focus. You see, if making money is your ultimate focus in business, you can’t help but be a taker. And being a taker and not a giver is to break the golden rule in business, which is this: Give and you will receive.
Hear ye this:
You don’t become successful in business by being greedy. Sure, you can make some serious bucks being a greedy bastard, but know this: greedy bastards NEVER succeed in the long run. Greed has a very short shelf life. It doesn’t take customers long to realize you’re taking more than you’re giving.
In other words, you can’t sustain a business by ripping off your customers.
Now, let’s talk about money.
When I was a young buck, and in need of some serious bucks, all I ever thought of was making more bucks.
What I didn’t realize at the time was this: money is very much like an aloof cat.
The more you chase it, the more it eludes you.
Listen, if you want a skittish cat to come up to you, what do you do?
It’s very simple.
You stop chasing it, and instead, you use something that will attract it.
If you put down a plate of tuna at your feet and wait quietly, it won’t be long before that kitty cat has its greedy little face in that tuna.
And so it is with money.
Money is incredibly skittish. It will flee from those who chase it. However, if you know what type of person attracts money, your money problems are over.
You see, there is a certain type of person that money finds irresistible.
Yup, money makes a beeline towards this type of person and avoids anyone who isn’t that kind of person.
OK, Kelvin, tell me, what type of person attracts money?
You know what?
I’d like to know what YOU think.
Tell me, what kind of person do you think money is attracted to. Reply to this email with your answer.
And, tomorrow, I’ll give you MY (very illuminating) answer.
Deal?
Great.
We’ll continue our little chat tomorrow.
Later.
