Dear subscriber,
I saw the following headline in today’s paper:
“It’s Tom Hanks’ Birthday”
And…?
Exactly.
Who the hell cares!
Listen, I think Tom Hanks is one of the greatest actors of all time.
I really do.
However… when it comes to his birthday or any details of his personal life for that matter, I couldn’t care less if I were in a coma.
But, that’s just me.
Evidently, LOTS of people do care about Tom Hanks’ birthday.
And here we come to our lesson for the day.
Understand this: People are fascinated (many are obsessed) with celebrities.
Always have been, always will.
If you’re not using people’s fascination with celebrities in your marketing messages…
… More Fool You!
Now, I wonder how many of you will actually apply what you learned here today?
Most of you already know how powerful using celebrity in your marketing messages can be, but knowing about it and actually acting on that knowledge is two different things entirely.
Listen, if you learn a new marketing technique and you don’t apply it, then you’re no different from the guy who watches an infomercial selling Chuck Norris’s total gym, gets all excited, buys the total gym, and then lets it sit in his garage to gather dust.
Learning is very overrated. Learning is just the beginning.
Perhaps the following obstetrics analogy will help:
Learning is conception. Application is where what you learned starts to take form. Consistent application is when what you learned starts getting results for all to see! In other words, consistent action is how you turn knowledge into power!
Learning without application is like taking an accordion player on a deer hunt – totally useless!
Implementing what you learn is where it’s at.
As Elvis used to say…
… A little Less Learning, a Little
More Action, Please!
