A Business Owner With No Stories Has No Brand

“A woman who wears no perfume has no future.” ~ Coco Chanel

That, my friend, is not just a quote.

It’s not just a saying.

It’s not just words.

It’s not just a light-hearted quip.

Nope.

Coco Chanel’s quote is also an example of…

… Storytelling!

A micro story, but a story, nonetheless.

Now, if you read one of Coco Chanel’s biographies (I recommend it), you’ll quickly discover that that ole girl was quite the raconteur.

She, like other perspicacious individuals (hat tip to Andrew Tate), understands the power of speaking in story form.

Below is a snippet from a book titled: Coco Chanel – The Legend And The Life

“When my customers come to me, they like to cross the threshold of some magic place. They feel a satisfaction that is perhaps a trace vulgar but that delights them. They are privileged characters who are incorporated into our legend. For them, this is a far greater pleasure than ordering another suit. Legend is the consecration of fame. You’re not a customer, you’re a character in a fantasy that I’m creating for you.”

Is it any wonder Chanel products are still flying off the shelves 100+ years later?

Show me a businessperson who truly understands the immense (almost magical) power of storytelling, and I’ll show you a businessperson with a strong and popular brand.

Now, before you give me that same-o lame-o objection of “But I don’t sell beauty products, I sell XYZ”, listen up:

Years back when I was edumacating my ignorant arse in the ways of sales and marketing, I had me a pair of insights.

Insight the first:

Gee-willikers! I can tell just about any story I want so long as I tier it into what I’m selling.

Insight the second:

Hmm, subscribers love to read and buy from story-based emails.

Huzzah!

But how do I, Papa Maverick, teach others to do the same?

Well, I have delved deeply into this matter and the results of my ponderances are to be found here: https://kelvindorsey.com/mavericks-storyselling-secrets/

Plus, this book has more StorySelling examples than pimples at a Junior prom.
