Dear subscriber,
In 2003…
… the heir to the Johnson & Johnson pharmaceutical empire, Jamie Johnson, took a break from yacht parties and polo matches to make a documentary film.
He titled it Born Rich.
Born Rich is a riveting exploration of the daily lives of those born into obscene wealth.
It’s like watching a nature documentary about exotic animals, except in this case, the exotic animals are trust fund babies, and their natural habitat is a penthouse overlooking Central Park.
Well anyway, in this doco, Jamie, or “JJ” as he’s affectionately known by his well-to-do lawyers and financial advisors, rolled out the red carpet for his pal Ivanka Trump.
Ivanka Trump retells a surprising story about Daddy Trump.
It’s a surprising story because, believe it or not, it shows that Trump once had a temporary moment of self-reflection and honesty.
Here’s the story straight from Ivanka…
IVANKA: I remember once my father and I were walking down Fifth Avenue and there was a homeless person sitting right outside of Trump Tower, and I remember my father pointing to him and saying, ‘You know, that guy has $8 billion more than me,’ because he was in such extreme debt at that point, you know?
***
Well, yes, on paper, the homeless guy was better off.
But in reality, Trump was far, far, farrrr better off.
Why?
Because the homeless dude was, no doubt, “living out his truth” and probably “identified as” poor. (those phrases have now been hijacked, haven’t they?) But Trump? Despite being buried under a mountain of debt, he’s got this never-say-die attitude because he doesn’t see himself as poor. Poor, my friend, it’s like a bad tattoo – it’s there to stay. But being broke? That’s just a speed bump on the highway of life. It’s all about how you see yourself. If you see yourself as poor, guess what? You’re gonna stay poor. But you see yourself as rich, well, you’re already halfway to the penthouse.
Direct marketing legend Gary Halbert said it best:
“Somebody can take your money away, but if you have it between your ears, you can NEVER be poor. You can only be broke and that’s always a TEMPORARY situation.
Here’s something else Gary said:
“The most valuable skill you can have in today’s world… if… you want to become independently wealthy… is… the ability to write a great sales message.” ~ Gary Halbert
The most valuable skill in the world, though?
It’s a big claim.
Look, at the very least, it’s a skill that will pay the bills.
If you want help with that skill, you might wanna check out this: https://kelvindorsey.com/5-hour-copy-course/
If you internalize everything in that book, you’ll be light years ahead of the average copywriter who relies on templates, swipe files, and CrapGPT (yes, yes, ChatGPT is an amazing tool, but it’s only as good as the idiot using it)
