“I don’t tell jokes, I tell stories.” ~ Lucille Ball
Let’s talk comedy for a minute.
Richard Pryor is often credited for changing comedy because of his storytelling. But let me tell you, before Richard Pryor, there was the great Lucille Ball.
Lucille Ball was not just the first woman to head a production company, but she was also the first comedian to realize the power of storytelling. Here’s what Lucille said back in the 60s: “I don’t know how to tell a joke. I never tell jokes. I can tell stories that happened to me… anecdotes. But never a joke.”
Yup, you can’t lose telling stories. People love a good story like they love a good parking spot.
Now, I know I’m a broken record on this, but dammit, if you’re not telling stories in your marketing messages, you’re nuts!
But how do you use stories to sell a product or service?
Gosh, I thought you’d never ask.

P.S. Lucille was also very wise. Check this out: “One of the things I learned the hard way was that it doesn’t pay to get discouraged. Keeping busy and making optimism a way of life can restore your faith in yourself.”
Great advice from a great woman.
